The Shelby County EMA is encouraging residents, businesses and schools to participate in the annual statewide tornado drill at 9:50 am on Wednesday, March 18th, as part of Ohio’s Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Throughout the week, the Shelby County EMA will share preparedness tips and safety information on its Facebook page, Shelby County Emergency Management Agency Ohio, covering topics such as emergency kits, weather alerts, lightning safety, tornado safety, flooding, and reporting storm damage.
Residents are also encouraged to receive alerts through multiple methods. Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert individuals who are outdoors and may not always be heard inside homes or businesses. Because of this, sirens should not be relied upon as the primary way to receive emergency alerts.
One effective way to stay informed is by registering for Shelby County Alerts through the county’s mass notification system, CivicReady at: https://public.alertsense.com/SignUp/?RegionId=2083
Residents can also subscribe to emergency alerts via text message by texting “ShelbyCO” to 38276.
